MakerBot Smart Extruder+

The Smart Extruder+ is the heart of MakerBot's Desktop 3D Printers.
The "+" model of the Smart Extruder played a critical role in MakerBot's turn around and extreme focus on quality.
From a design perspective our goal was to ensure that this heightened quality was expressed through its design.

My Role

I led the charge in advocating for a more extensive outward design refresh, including improved user interaction, enhanced branding, and a modular badging system to denote different variants. I managed the industrial design effort and facilitated the execution to production. Working in collaboration with marketing creative, I also led an effort to extend the same quality of design, experience, and branding to new packaging for the Extruder. Smart Extruder+ has sucessfully renewed customer satisfaction.
