The Motorola LEX700 is a purpose built rugged handset designed for public safety officers and government personnel. Its the first generation of mobile devices to operate simultaneously on public LTE and proprietary government LTE networks simultaneously - with the intent to provide mission critical data and situational awareness to personnel under any circumstances.
This is the first device built by an emerging public safety broadband business within Motorola, for which I was the manager of industrial design. I was the lead designer as well as the primary liaison to the business team. The hardware and interface design of the LEX700 was informed by dozens of hours of field research and user testing with public safety officers. The successful design had to overcome highly challenging performance, packaging, and RF requirements. I also led the design of a suite of innovative accessories that accompany the LEX700, and led external design resources to develop them in collaboration with remote development teams in Israel.
LEX700 has received several international design awards.
